Try to avoid fluctuating heat and humidity as these are often responsible for tuning instability. Excessive heat may cause other serious problems. It is important that you have your piano tuned regularly. Keeping the piano regularly tuned means that it will be much more stable and maintain the correct pitch. Having your piano tuned every six months is generally best for most domestic situations.
As well as regular tuning, there are several other aspects to maintaining your piano: Look after your piano! Keep it clean and avoid placing drinks or vases of flowers on the piano. Spilt liquids can cause serious damage, which could be costly to repair.
If possible, try to have clean hands when playing and if you should need to clean the keys, use a soft cotton cloth, which is only slightly damp with clean water and buff with a soft dry cloth. For the casework of the piano, avoid any sprays as these will build up a residue over time. Anti-static dusters for dust removal and a microfibre cloth for high gloss finishes to remove fingerprints.
